This course secures your scholarship. Ministry training must include understanding of sound doctrine. This course considers core biblical doctrines about Scripture, the church, and the future. This course is part 2 of  the very popular in-depth theology class.

Preaching Methods: Rev. Steve Elzinga  (3 credits)

Requirement (as an alternative to Sermon Construction and Presentation) for: Commissioned Pastor’s Diploma and all higher awards

This class aims to help you “fan into flame the gift of God” (2 Tim 1:6) in order to proclaim the Word faithfully and effectively. Areas of emphasis include: (1) blending accurate biblical interpretation with contemporary relevance; (2) preaching as an overflow of personal holiness; (3) sharpening communication skills; and (4) integrating weekly preaching at church with daily Bible reading by the congregation at home. This is a ministry training class that will enhance your ministry. This course also gives some basic instruction on worship issues as well. This will be a fun class in your Bible School journey with us.

Sermon Construction and Presentation: Rev. Henry Reyenga ( 4 Credits)

Requirement (as an alternative to Preaching Methods) for: Commissioned Pastor’s Diploma and all higher awards

This preaching class will strengthen your preaching as you learn basics of communication, study how to prepare and preach sermons, and watch a variety of preachers and teachers in action. You will access teaching from preachers and communicators from all over the world. You will do two messages in this course. The course is will also meet preaching core requirements.

Hermeneutics and Exegesis: Dr. David Feddes, Dr. Jeff Weima, and Dr. David Graves  (3 credits)

How to interpret the Bible is an advanced part of your ministry training. This Bible School course deals with key issues in how to interpret the Bible. Students learn steps for studying a passage and practice using various study tools, including computer software, to become more skilled in understanding biblical passages and preparing sermons.

Christian Ethics:  Dr. David Feddes (3 Credits)

Requirement for: Diploma of Ministry and all higher awards

This Bible School course focuses on living according to God’s pattern for you.  You will study biblical commands and their wise application to various life situations. You will expose demonic strategies of temptation and learn about spiritual warfare. You will seek ways to express the Christ-life within you by the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. You will find this Bible School class important for how you live and lead as a ministry leader.

Christian Apologetics: Dr. Voddie Baucham and Dr. David Feddes (3 credits)

This Bible School seminary style  course is designed to introduce students to basic issues in apologetics (defending and contending for the faith). The course will emphasize Biblical Worldview and Cultural Apologetics, the application of apologetics to contemporary cultural issues.

(Outside Book Needed)  This is the first in a sequence of three courses on the basics of New Testament Greek. This course takes your ministry training deeper as you study the original language the New Testament was written in. These Greek classes are Bible School gems!

(Outside Book Needed)  This is the third in a sequence of three courses on the basics of New Testament Greek. When you make it this far in your Biblical Greek expertise, you will be able to read the New Testament in Greek. This would be beneficial in your ministry training. When you make it through Greek 3, you demonstrate a high level of academic excellence.

In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power. (Acts 19:20) This class looks at mighty things the Holy Spirit has done at various times and places, causing the church to grow in holiness, power, and numbers. By examining major mission advances and revivals, we gain insights for mission and revival in our own time and place. This class will examine the gospel cultivation cycle to give insights in how to spread the growth of Christianity everywhere. You will see how important your Bible School training is for sustainable revival.

Challenges in Counseling  Dr. Drew Brown (3 credits)

Elective Credit

This Bible School course’s approach to counseling blends Scripture and the soul. Starting with issues of self-discovery for the counselor himself, the course then offers a model of counseling which combines “soul care” and “spiritual direction”. Finally, we will examine how to approach some common and difficult problems in the lives of people who seek pastoral counseling: alcoholism, depression, pornography, parent-child conflict, doubt, and more. For those who are studying advanced ministry training this will be a fine addition in your course selection

HISGEO Studies in Biblical Lands  An investigation into  biblical Geography in their historical, cultural, archaeological, and geographical setting with major emphasis in Israel.3 Units  Pilgrimage to the Holy Land for further studies 3 Units

BITH Studies in Paul's Book to the Romans A chapter-by-chapter analysis of Paul’s argument in the book of Romans with special emphasis on Paul’s view of humanity, salvation, Christ, and the Holy Spirit.3 Units

BITH The Synoptic Gospels- A comparative study of the Synoptic Gospels. The question of the relationship & sources of the gospels of Matthew, Mark & Luke. 3 Units

BITH Studies in the Gospel of St. John. A comprehensive study of John’s gospel. Its insights into personal spirituality, will be emphasized in the context of  critical Johannine scholarship.        3 Units

BILAN Introduction to Hebrew. Introduction to Biblical Hebrew covers some essential elements of the grammar of Biblical Hebrew and introduces some basic vocabulary. It introduces students to aspects of translation of Biblical Hebrew as well as the main lexical aids. On completion of the subject students should be able to translate basic nominal and verbal sentences.3 Units

BITH The Psalms-Songs of Israel and the Church A study of the spiritual and literary legacy of the book of Psalms. The collection will be analyzed according to literary types, and the individual psalms studied according to their type and content. The use of Psalms in the history of the Church as a vehicle of worship will be a daily devotional focus to begin each class 3 Units

BITH Old Testament Apocalyptic Literature A survey of the development of apocalyptic literature in the OT (Isaiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Joel, Zechariah) and the intertestamental period         (2 Esdras and Enoch). This survey includes an introduction to the character of apocalyptic, foundational principles for the interpretation of apocalyptic, and an evaluation of apocalyptic as a communicative and revelatory vehicle. 3 Units

HIST-Intertestamental Literature A survey of intertestamental history from 600 to 5 B.C. with special attention given to the literature of the period as a theological bridge between the Old and New Covenants. Areas of study include OT Apocrypha and selections from the OT Pseudepigrapha, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and rabbinic Judaism. 3 Units

BITH Old Testament Wisdom Literature.A selection from the Old Testament wisdom books, Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Songs of Solomon, and Lamentations, The apocryphal books of Jesus ben Sirach and the Wisdom of Solomon may also be read and studied in relation to canonical wisdom. 3 Units

BITH Life of Christ A thorough study of Jesus’ life and teaching. Primary attention will be given to reconstructing the first-century with historical, Archeological, and cultural setting of Judaism that shaped Jesus’ message.3 Units

BITH Paul of Tarsus A study of the life and thought of Paul as found in the book of Acts and in Paul’s New Testament letters. The course will synthesize the major categories of Pauline thought and emphasize their value for faith today. 3 Units The footsteps of Paul Tour is available  3 Units

TH Institutes of the Christian Religion Reading and analysis of the Institutes of the Christian Religion, emphasizing Calvin's method, material arrangement, and biblical theological content. Elective 3 Units

BITH Studies in Paul's First Epistle to the Corinthians A section-by-section survey of             1 Corinthians dealing with the issues of the nature of the Church, Christian behavior and social responsibility, sexuality, marriage and divorce, Christian worship, the spiritual gifts, and the resurrection. 3 Units

HIST Anthology of Christianity Anthology of Christianity examines the key figures, events and ideas from the Apostolic age to the Reformation in Christian history and places them in context. 3 Units

HIST History of Theological Christian Thought. Historical survey of people and movements which have shaped the faith of the Christian church from post-biblical times to today's modern thought 3 Units

BITH Pneumatology An investigation of the doctrine of the Holy Spirit, with reference to the biblical foundations and significant historical and contemporary developments. Trinitarian  issues will be discussed, as well as an emphasis on the Spirit’s cosmic work. Additionally, this course aims to encourage a deeper understanding of the Spirit’s role in our lives.3 Units

BITH Biblical Interpretation and Hermeneutics. A survey of hermeneutical theory discussing  how author, text, and reader work together as meaning emerges from a text. These insights will then be applied to the Bible, giving the student an interpretive strategy for exegete biblical texts and bringing their meaning into the modern world. 3 Units

HIST Blood of Christian Martyrs  the seed of Christianity- Is the blood of Christian Martyrs the seed of Christianity? A riveting question that this class will try to answer.Elective 3 Units.

BITH The Exodus. The exodus event is as central to OT theology as the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ to NT theology. The historical and theological implications of this book will be examined, with special emphasis given to the covenant between God and Israel. Elective 3 Units Holy Land  Pilgrimages 3 Units

BITH   The Letters to the Seven Churches of Asia The Letters to the Seven Churches of Asia and their place in the plan of the Apocalypse with special attention to the historical background, literary analysis, theological emphases, and traditional interpretations . Elective 3 Units

HIST Reformation and Modern Church History-The study of Christianity from the Reformation to the present, with source material readings. Also the development of Christian thought and apply church history to contemporary ideas and issues. The course also includes a brief overview of historic revivals and world missions.  3 Units

BITH Parables of Jesus An examination of the parabolic teaching of Jesus then (in its first century Palestinian cultural setting) and now (its message to twenty-first-century Christians and society). Emphasis on the history of interpretation, especially contemporary literary-aesthetic approaches. Elective 3 Units

BITH Old Testament Exegesis  A practical study of the procedures for doing sound exegesis in the various portions of the Old Testament.  The method will include the study of words, poetics, textual criticism, syntax, biblical theology, and practical exegetical exposition in the different genres of the Hebrew Bible. 3 Units 

BILAN Introduction to Greek Grammar Introduction to Greek Grammar covers some essential elements of the grammar of Greek and introduces some basic Syntax, Mood and Tense. For learners with beginning Ancient Greek experience, this Class  provides excellent discussion and examples of Greek Syntax Elective.3 Units

BITH New Testament Apocalyptic Literature A survey of the development of apocalyptic literature in the New Testament. This survey includes an introduction to the character of apocalyptic, foundational principles for the interpretation of apocalyptic, and an evaluation of apocalyptic as a communicative and revelatory vehicle.3 Units

BITH Pastoral Epistles Careful investigation of 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus. Detailed textual analysis will lead to better understanding of the joys and struggles of Christian leadership under Paul’s direction. BILANThe Greek Text of Romans: Text Critical Study . Using the textbook and the textual notes in the lectures, construct an exegesis (of 10 pages) on a segment of Romans of your choosing. 3 Units

BITH Christology Study of the person and work of Christ with reference to the biblical foundations and significant historical and contemporary developments. Trinitarian  issues will be discussed. Additionally, this course aims to encourage a deeper understanding of Christ's working in our daily lives 3 Units

PHILChristian Ethics An examination of the history, methodology, and content of Christian ethics with application to specific contemporary issues.. 3 Units

HIST Jerusalem the Holy City Following a chronological order, this course explores the origins, character and ongoing shifts in symbolic meaning of one of the most ancient and continuously settled cities on earth, Jerusalem. Students will acquire basic knowledge of the major periods in this long history as well as of the communities and traditions that have called it their home. Elective 3 Units
